Principal Biographies
Robert A. DiMeo, CIMA®, CFP™
Managing Director, Co-Founder
Bob has authored and been the subject of numerous investment/retirement plan articles appearing in prominent publications including the Los Angeles Times, Crain’s Chicago Business and Pensions & Investments, and has taught courses on fiduciary responsibility and related subjects. He co-authored Asset Management for Endowments & Foundations (McGraw Hill), and Designing a 401(k) Plan (Probus). His latest book, The Practical Guide to Managing Nonprofit Assets (John Wiley & Sons) was released in 2005. Prior to co-founding DiMeo Schneider & Associates, L.L.C., Bob served as Vice President for Kidder, Peabody’s Institutional Consulting Group where he chaired the 401(k) consulting effort. Bob served on the Board of Directors for the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA) and the Governance Board for Notre Dame High School. He is also an Advisory Board member for Catholic Charities of Chicago. Bob obtained the Certified Investment Management Analyst designation from IMCA’s accreditation program at the Wharton School of Business, and he is also a Certified Financial Planner. Bob obtained his bachelor’s degree from Bradley University.
William A. Schneider, CIMA®
Managing Director & Co-Founder
Bill co-founded DiMeo Schneider & Associates L.L.C in 1995 after a variety of leadership roles including Senior Vice President with Kidder, Peabody’s Prime Asset Consulting Group. In his current role as Managing Director he serves on the firm’s investment committee; helps oversee the firm’s business and operating infrastructure; and provides institutional clients with more than 24 years of investment expertise. Bill is an acknowledged authority in the areas of institutional and nonprofit investment consulting having written and lectured extensively on the topics. Bill is co-author of the book Designing A 401(k) Plan (Probus Publishing); his second collaboration, Asset Management for Endowments and Foundations, (McGraw Hill) was released in 1997; and his third book, The Practical Guide to Managing Nonprofit Assets (John Wiley & Sons) was published in April 2005. He holds the title Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®), awarded through the IMCA accreditation program at the Wharton School of Business. Bill graduated from the University of Illinois in 1967 and has completed advanced training in asset allocation and portfolio theory. On a personal note, Bill is an accomplished artist with gallery representation in the Midwest, Southwest and West Coast and currently serves on the board of Oil Painters of America. Michael S. Benoit, CFP™, CIMA®
Managing Director, The Wealth Officer™
Mike is Managing Director of The Wealth Office™ at DiMeo Schneider & Associates, L.L.C and a co-Founder of the firm. As a Certified Financial Planner, he provides investment counseling services to private foundations, corporate executives, family trusts, and other substantial investors. Along with overseeing this group, Michael sits on the firm’s investment policy and asset allocation committees. He has addressed national conferences on subjects including professional money management, financial planning, and estate planning. He co-authored The Practical Guide to Managing Nonprofit Assets which was released in April 2005. Mike is a member of the Financial Planning Association and the Investment Management Consultants Association. He obtained the title Certified Investment Management Analyst from IMCA’s accreditation program at the Wharton School of Business, and Certified Financial Planner from the College of Financial Planning. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Bradley University.
Douglas M. Balsam, CIMC®
Principal & Director of Institutional Consulting
Doug is a Principal and Director of Institutional Consulting at DiMeo Schneider & Associates, L.L.C. As Director of Institutional Consulting, Doug is responsible for oversight of the firm’s institutional consultants and setting strategic direction for the firm’s institutional consulting business. He also serves as a member of the firm’s Investment Research Committee. In 2004, Doug co-authored The Practical Guide to Managing Nonprofit Assets. Prior to joining the firm in 1998, he spent several years at Scudder, Stevens & Clark, a Boston-based investment management firm. Doug earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Finance at Miami University, and his Master’s of Business Administration, with honors, from Loyola University in Chicago. He obtained the Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) designation from IMCA’s accreditation program at the Wharton School of Business and the Accredited Investment Fiduciary Auditor (AIFA®) designation from the Center for Fiduciary Studies at the Joseph M Katz Graduate School of Business at the University of Pittsburgh. Doug was a member of Profit Sharing Council of America’s Annual Plan Survey Committee and has been a featured speaker at their national conference. Doug is a committee member for the Greater Chicago Food Depository, an organization that helps feed hungry people in the local region.
Matthew P. Porter, CIMA®
Principal & Senior Consultant
Matt is a Principal, Director of Investment Research and Analytics, and a Senior Consultant with the firm. In his role as Director of Investment Research and Analytics, Matt challenges firm members to think about and embrace innovation and knowledge development in all they do. He advises institutional clients on a variety of topics, including asset allocation, investment manager relations, and portfolio rebalances. Matt is also is the Chair of the Investment Research Committee which sets all investment policies for the firm, establishes the framework for asset allocation, and reviews and approves investment managers. In 2004, he co-authored The Practical Guide to Managing Nonprofit Assets (John Wiley & Sons). Matt received a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, IL. He obtained the title Certified Investment Management Analyst (CIMA®) from IMCA’s accreditation program at the Wharton School of Business and he is a member of the Investment Management Consultants Association (IMCA).
Matthew R. Rice, CFA, CIMA®
Principal & Chief Research Officer
Matt Rice joined the firm in January of 2001 and is a Principal and the firm’s Chief Research Officer. As Chief Research Officer, Matt spearheads the firm’s efforts in the areas of capital market analysis & forecasts, investment strategy, asset allocation & portfolio rebalancing modeling and alternative investments. He is also a member of the DiMeo Schneider & Associates, L.L.C.’s investment committee which sets investment policy, establishes the framework for asset allocation and approves investment managers. In 2004, he co-authored The Practical Guide to Managing Nonprofit Assets (John Wiley & Sons). In his role as Senior Consultant, Matt advises a number of corporate and non-profit clients. Matt received a BA in Economics from Northwestern University, is a CFA Charterholder (Chartered Financial Analyst), a CIMA (Certified Investment Management Analyst), a CIMC (Certified Investment Management Consultant), and earned an Alternative Investment Certificate from the Wharton School of Business & IMCA. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and is the Treasurer of the N-Club, Northwestern University letter-winners’ alumni organization.
